One of the things being stressed here is the importance of an informed society as well as an informed government in order to change the nature of resource plundering. I think this is very true, but I think it will be very difficult to educate and convince people of long term goals when they live in countries where the trust in politics has completely vanished. Education is the obvious solution but in what shape and form?
It's a very interesting approach to development and I hope the issue of support by the society for such a project will not be left aside.

Thanks for your comment Monona. The Charter provides a starting point to help citizens understand the opportunities presented by natural resources- however you rightly point out that without an informed society the task will be difficult. Civil society organisations, from charities and campaigning groups through to church and faith based organizations will all be important to spread the word and help mobilize their memberships.
